The WestWind Group of companies in Germany was launched with the establishment of the Wind Park Lemke in the community of Marklohe (northern Germany). This wind park was completed in the summer of 1999. The idea of cooperating with investors to combine profitability and environmental protection has proven to be successful and by the end of 2005 more that 100 wind turbines had been commissioned in Germany by the WestWind Group. In 2003 the idea of expanding the activities of the WestWind Group of companies internationally took shape. At the invitation of the Victorian and Australian Commonwealth governments the potential for establishing a new business in Australia was investigated and WestWind Energy Pty Ltd was established in 2004. WestWind Energy Pty Ltd is an Australian company dedicated to the development, construction and operation of wind farms in Australia. We benefit from the experience of the WestWind Group in Germany – and established and successful wind farm developer and operator. The WestWind Group is run by engineers with a desire to use their technical skills to improve our environment. They have realised that using the power of the wind to generate electricity can be applied on a reasonably large scale, providing it is financially viable. The resulting emissions-free electricity makes a significant contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. For example a single wind turbine of the ‘multi-megawatt class’ (2.0MW or more output) – the type WestWind prefers to install in Australia – produces approximately 7,000,000 kWh (or more) clean electricity each year – equivalent to the electrical energy consumption of about 1,300 average Victorian households. WestWind Energy has already identified and secured a number of potential wind farm sites in Australia (sites with a good wind resource and not ecologically sensitive) that are ready for development now and into the future. We also consider new locations with potential for the development of new projects that are brought to our attention from time to time. |
